books i'm planning to read

I’ve been trying to read more this year, and it’s been going. Um. Not well, to say the very least. I don’t think I read a single book in July. It just feels so much easier to reach over to my phone and open up a fic, and I know that reading is reading, but I really ought to expand my literature taste instead of reading coffeeshop AUs over and over again. So I pulled this list off my notebook so you guys can publicly shame me when I don’t read <3 (jkjk…… haha unless??), but here’s my list of novels/memoirs + one short fiction book + poetry books I’ve been meaning to read since the start of summer:

Novels/memoirs:
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Memorial by Bryan Washington
I Am Not Myself These Days by Josh Kilmer-Purcell
Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
Lust & Wonder by Augusten Burroughs
Bunny by Mona Awad
Normal People by Sally Rooney
Less by Andrew Sean Greer
Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

Short fiction:
This is Pleasure by Mary Gaitskill

Poetry books:
The Narrow Road to the Interior: Poems by Kimiko Hahn
Lord of the Butterflies by Andrea Gibson
Madness Vase by Andrea Gibson
When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities by Chen Chen
Bluets by Maggie Nelson
Bestiary by Donika Kelly
Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong
Soft Science by Franny Choi

I genuinely don’t know why half of these books are on my list or where they came from since I made this list a long while ago and my memory sucks, but hopefully I’ll enjoy some of them! Maybe I’ll make another post about books that I’ve read this year, but we’ll see.

why do i just totally relate to reading more fics than books during july T___T sometimes we are illiterate!!! but omg this list is so exciting… personal favorites (from what i’ve read here, which isn’t much) are definitely the celeste ng book and ofc ON EARTH WE’RE BRIEFLY GORGEOUS <333 and idk if you’re open to more recs but i actually liked celeste ng’s first book everything i never told you MORE??? T___T idk tho. also ur commitment to reading poetry is so iconic like for some reason i cannot appreciate books of poetry and i can only consume poetry in bite sized chunks LOL. this gave me some stuff to add to my to-read list so thank u for that~~~ if u have a storygraph lmk btw
